그리스도인의 건강진단
본문: 에스겔 34:11-16, 20-24   마태복음 25:31-46

We sometimes talk and hear about the topic, “the end of the world.”
Jesus responded to the disciples questions about the ‘end of the age’:
-The nations will be separated in the same way a shepherd separates sheep and goat based
on whether they have fed the hungry, clothed the naked, and so forth;
according to how they have responded to the call to save those overlooked or ignored.
Jesus, as a shepherd, cares for sheep, leading them for food, protecting them from harm,
making sure they all get a fair share, and looking after their cuts and scrapes. He is present
in ‘the least of these’. He is present among the outcast and the lowly. Jesus has identified
himself with those who are sick, the naked, the thirsty, stranger, and the homeless.
Matthew’s depiction of the last judgement is like a wellness check.
It’s purpose is to provide a snapshot of our overall health, development, learning, and growth
that should lead to new habits and ways of life.
It helps us measure who and where we are as we grow in the likeness of Christ.
This passage provides a wellness check and possibly even a warning to those living in
unhealthy and self-centered ways.
“What you do for and to the least of these – sick, hungry, homeless, oppressed, and
imprisoned you do to me.”
There are important points in these words of Jesus:
a. A statement about God.
Our God is not a remote supreme being on a throne up there above the clouds or out
there somewhere.
God is here in the messiness and ambiguity of human life – in our neighbour, the one
who needs us. Do you want to see the face of God? Then look into the face of one
of the least of these: the vulnerable, the weak, the children.
b. The practice of religion
Do we see Christ in the face of the needy and do we give ourselves away in love in
Jesus’ name?
c. God wants us.
God of love wants to save and redeem us and give us the gift of life, by touching our
hearts with love, and by persuading us to care and see other people who need us.
God’s favourite project is to teach us that to love is to live.

How might Christ’s reign of justice, peace, and love become more visible through us and
through our church?
Many years ago there was a description of 18 attributes of the UCC:
-offers the possibility of personal transformation
-is open to change
-offers new ways of looking at faith
-engages both emotion and the intellect
-encourages questioning
-respects all people
-celebrates all peoples and lifestyles
-respects personal freedom and choice
-values all ages
-is welcoming to everyone
-builds relationships with other traditions
– builds deep personal relationships
-respect the earth and the environment
-translates personal faith into action
-emphasizes helping people
-works with the poor to improve their situation
-reaches out to the needy
-works for justice in the world
What are the outreach, community service or social justice activities we are currently
involved with? Are there any new projects or activities we want to create or to add?
Bonino, the editor of a book, “Faces of Jesus” says that “To encounter with Christ in history
passes by way of the oppressed and there is no detour. It is only through concrete deeds of
love and solidarity that our encounter with the poor person, with the exploited human being
will be effective and in that person our encounter with Christ and through them with Christ
will be valid as well.”

우리는 이따금 세상의 종말 또는 최후의 심판등에 관해서 서로 말하기도하고, 혹은 다른
사람들의 견해를 듣기도합니다.
예수님의 제자들이 이 세상의 마지막에 관해서 질문했을때에 예수님께서 설명하셨읍니다:
-모든 나라들이 예수님 앞에 모일것이다.
-가난한 사람들에게 먹을 것을 주었는지, 벗은 사람들에게 입을옷을 주었는지 등의 여부에
따라 그들은 구분될것이다. 무시당하고 소외 당하는 사람들을 돌보는 일에 어떻게 반응
했는가에 따라 마치 목자가 양과 염소를 갈라놓듯이 구분될것이다.
예수님은 목자로서 양들을 돌보고, 먹을 것을 제공합니다. 위험으로부터 그들을 보호할 뿐만
아니라, 모든것을 균등하게 나누어 갖게 하며, 아픈 상처도 싸매줍니다. 가장 보잘것 없는
사람의 상황에 함께합니다. 이방인 취급을 받는 사람, 낮고 천한 위치에 있는 사람들과도
함께합니다. 아픈 사람, 헐벗은 사람, 목마른 사람, 낯선사람, 집없는 사람들과도 함께하지요.
마태복음에 나오는 마지막 심판에 관한 이야기는 마치 건강에 대해 여러가지를 알아보는 것
같습니다. 우리의 건강, 발달상태, 배움, 성장등에 관해서 간단한 내용들을 알아보데에 그
목적이 있지요.
우리가 자라면서 예수님을 닮아가려고 할때에 우리는 누구이고, 어디에 있는가를
알아보는데에 도움이 됩니다. 이 본문은 또한 건강하게 살지않고 자기 중심적으로만
살아가는 사람들에게는 하나의 경고가 될 수도 있겠지요.
“아프고, 배고파하며, 집없이 살고, 억압받으며, 감옥에 갇혀있는 사람들을 위해 무엇인가
하는 것이 곧 나에게 하는 것과 같다.” 라는 예수님의 말씀에는 몇가지 중요한 내용이
있읍니다.
1. 하나님에 관하여:
하나님은 저 멀리 혹은 저 높은 곳에 계신분이 아니다. 그는 모든것이 어지럽고
분명하지않은 이 인간세상에 계신다. 하나님의 얼굴을 보시기 원합니까? 그렇다면,
연약하고, 상처받기 쉬운 위치에 있는사람들, 그리고 어린이들의 얼굴을 보십시오.
2. 종교적인 생활

우리는 도움을 필요로하는 사람들의 얼굴에서 그리스도를 봅니까? 그리스도의
이름으로 그들과 함께 우리의 사랑을 나눔니까?
3. 하나님은 우리를 원하십니다
사랑의 하나님께서는 우리를 구원하시고,생명의 선물을 주시기 원하십니다. 그래서
사랑으로 우리를 어루만지시며, 우리를 필요로 하는 사람들을 돌보라고 하시지요.
사랑하는 일은 사는 길이라고 우리에게 가르쳐주시기를 원하십니다.
우리 개인이나 교회가 정의, 평화, 사랑으로 다스리시는 하나님의 나라를 어떻게하면 더
왕성하게 확장시킬 수 있을까요?
여러해 전에 우리 연합교회의 특성들을 나타내는 기사가 있었읍니다. 거기에 보면,
연합교회는,
-사람들이 개인적인변화를 경험할수 있는기회를 갖도록 장려한다.
-언제나 변화되기를 바란다.
-늘 새로운 각도에서 신앙을 볼수 있도록 격려한다.
-정서적이고 지적인 면에서 여러가지를 살펴보도록한다.
-질문을 많이 하도록 권유한다.
-모든 사람을 존중한다.
-많은 사람들의 여러 다른 생활방식을 이해하고 그들과 함께한다.
-개인의 자유와 선택을 존중한다.
-여러 다른 세대의 존재와 가치를 소중히 여긴다.
-모든 사람을 환영한다.
-각기 다른 전통을 가진 사람들이나 그런 단체와 관계를 갖도록 한다.
-깊은 개인적인 관계를 이루도록 노력한다.
-우리가 살고 있는 이 지구와 환경을 존중한다.
-개인적인 신앙을 행동으로 옮기도록 힘쓴다.
-사람들을 돕는일이 중요함을 강조한다.
-가난한 사람들의 형편이 나아질수있도록 함께 노력한다.
-도움이 필요한 사람들을 찾아 보도록 한다.
-이 세상의 정의를 위해서 일한다.
우리가 현재 하고있는 지역 공동체 봉사와 활동, 사회정의 운동들 외에도 우리가 추가로 더
새롭게 할수있거나 하기를 원하는 활동들은 무엇일까요?
보니노(Bonino)는 그가 쓴 “예수님의 얼굴들(Faces of Jesus)”이라는 책에서
“우리의 역사에서 그리스도를 만나기 위해서는 억압을 받는 사람들의 상황에 접할수 밖에
없으며 달리 피할길이 없다. 우리는 사랑과 연대라는 구체적인 행동을 통해서야 가난한
사람들이나 착취 당하며 사는 사람들과 효과적으로 만날수 있다. 그리고 그들을 통해서
만나게되는 그리스도가 더욱 뚜렸해진다.”고 말했다.
서로에게서 그리스도를 만나보도록 합시다!
