좋은 소식을 전하는 시온아, 어서 높은 산으로 올라가거라. 예루살렘에 아름다운 소식을 전하는 사람아’ 아름다운 소식을 전하는 예루살렘아, 너의 목소리를 힘껏 높여라. 두려워하지 말고 소리를 높여라. 유다의 성읍들에게 “여기에 너희의 하나님이 계신다” 하고 말하여라. 만군의 주 하나님께서 오신다. 그가 권세를 잡고 친히 다스리실 것이다. 보아라, 그가 백성에게 주실 상급을 가지고 오신다. 백성에게 주실 보상을 가지고 오신다. 그는 목자와 같이 그의 양 떼를 먹이시며, 어린 양들을 팔로 모으시고, 품에 안으시며, 젖을 먹이는 어미 양들을 조심스럽게 이끄신다. 그러므로 주님께서 친히 다윗 왕실에 한 징조를 주실 것입니다. 보십시오, 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이며, 그가 그의 이름을 임마누엘이라고 할 것입니다. 아멘.
There is good news for the city of Zion. Shout it as loud as you can from the highest mountain. Don’t be afraid to shout to the towns of Judah, “Your God is here!” Look! The powerful LORD God is coming to rule with his mighty arm. He brings with him what he has taken in war, and he rewards his people. The LORD cares for his nation, just as shepherds care for their flocks. He carries the lambs in his arms, while gently leading the mother sheep. But the LORD will still give you proof. A virgin is pregnant; she will have a son and will name him Immanuel. Amen

이새의 줄기에서 한 싹이 나며 그 뿌리에서 한 가지가 자라서 열매를 맺는다. 주님의 영이 그에게 내려오신다. 지혜와 총명의 영, 모략과 권능의 영, 지식과 주님을 경외하게 하는 영이 그에게 내려오시니, 그는 주님을 경외하는 것을 즐거움으로 삼는다. 그는 눈에 보이는 대로만 재판하지 않으며, 귀에 들리는 대로만 판결하지 않는다. 가난한 사람들을 공의로 재판하고, 세상에서 억눌린 사람들을 바르게 논죄한다. 그가 하는 말은 몽둥이가 되어 잔인한 자를 치고, 그가 내리는 선고는 사악한 자를 사형에 처한다. 그는 정의로 허리를 동여매고 성실로 그의 몸의 띠를 삼는다. 그 때에는, 이리가 어린 양과 함께 살며, 표범이 새끼 염소와 함께 누우며, 송아지와 새끼 사자와 살진 짐승이 함께 풀을 뜯고, 어린 아이가 그것들을 이끌고 다닌다. 암소와 곰이 서로 벗이 되며, 그것들의 새끼가 함께 눕고, 사자가 소처럼 풀을 먹는다. 젖먹는 아이가 독사의 구멍 곁에서 장난하고, 젖뗀 아이가 살무사의 굴에 손을 넣는다. “나의 거룩한 산 모든 곳에서, 서로 해치거나 파괴하는 일이 없다.” 물이 바다를 채우듯, 주님을 아는 지식이 땅에 가득하기 때문이다. 아멘.
Like a branch that sprouts from a stump, someone from David’s family will someday be king. Jesse was the father of King David. The Spirit of the LORD will be with him to give him understanding, wisdom, and insight. He will be powerful, and he will know and honor the LORD. His greatest joy will be to obey the LORD. This king won’t judge by appearances or listen to rumors. The poor and the needy will be treated with fairness and with justice. His word will be law everywhere in the land, and criminals will be put to death. Honesty and fairness will be his royal robes. Leopards will lie down with young goats, and wolves will rest with lambs. Calves and lions will eat together and be cared for by little children. Cows and bears will share the same pasture; their young will rest side by side. Lions and oxen will both eat straw. Little children will play near snake holes. They will stick their hands into dens of poisonous snakes and never be hurt. Nothing harmful will take place on the LORD’s holy mountain. Just as water fills the sea, the land will be filled with people who know and honor the LORD. Amen.

그 뒤로 여섯 달이 되었을 때에, 하나님께서 천사 가브리엘을 갈릴리 지방의 나사렛 동네로 보내시어, 다윗의 가문에 속한 요셉이라는 남자와 약혼한 처녀에게 가게 하셨다. 그 처녀의 이름은 마리아였다. 천사가 마리아에게 말하였다. “두려워하지 말아라. 마리아야, 그대는 하나님의 은혜를 입었다. 보아라, 그대가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 터이니, 그의 이름을 예수라고 하여라.” 마리아가 천사에게 말하였다. “나는 남자를 알지 못하는데, 어떻게 이런 일이 있겠습니까?” 천사가 마리아에게 대답하였다. “성령이 그대에게 임하시고, 더없이 높으신 분의 능력이 그대를 감싸 줄 것이다. 그러므로 태어날 아기는 거룩한 분이요, 하나님의 아들이라고 불릴 것이다.” 마리아가 말하였다. “보십시오, 나는 주님의 여종입니다. 당신의 말씀대로 나에게 이루어지기를 바랍니다.” 천사는 마리아에게서 떠나갔다. 아멘.
One month later God sent the angel Gabriel to the town of Nazareth in Galilee with a message for a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to Joseph from the family of King David. Then the angel told Mary, “Don’t be afraid! God is pleased with you, and you will have a son. His name will be Jesus.” Mary asked the angel, “How can this happen? I am not married!” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come down to you, and God’s power will come over you. So your child will be called the holy Son of God.” Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant! Let it happen as you have said.” And the angel left her. Amen.

약혼하고 나서, 같이 살기 전에, 마리아가 성령으로 잉태한 사실이 드러났다. 마리아의 남편 요셉은 의로운 사람이라서 약혼자에게 부끄러움을 주지 않으려고, 가만히 파혼하려 하였다. 요셉이 이렇게 생각하고 있는데, 주님의 천사가 꿈에 그에게 나타나서 말하였다. “다윗의 자손 요셉아, 두려워하지 말고, 마리아를 네 아내로 맞아 들여라. 그 태중에 있는 아기는 성령으로 말미암은 것이다. 마리아가 아들을 낳을 것이니, 너는 그 이름을 예수라고 하여라. 그가 자기 백성을 그들의 죄에서 구원하실 것이다.” 이 모든 일이 일어난 것은, 주님께서 예언자를 시켜서 이르시기를, “보아라, 동정녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이니, 그의 이름을 임마누엘이라고 할 것이다” 하신 말씀을 이루려고 하신 것이다. (임마누엘은 번역하면 ‘하나님이 우리와 함께 계시다’는 뜻이다.) 요셉은 잠에서 깨어 일어나서, 주님의 천사가 말한 대로, 마리아를 아내로 맞아들였다. 그러나 아들을 낳을 때까지는 아내와 잠자리를 같이하지 않았다. 아들이 태어나니, 요셉은 그 이름을 예수라고 하였다. 아멘.
This is how Jesus Christ was born. A young woman named Mary was engaged to Joseph from King David’s family. But before they were married, she learned that she was going to have a baby by God’s Holy Spirit. Joseph was a good man and did not want to embarrass Mary in front of everyone. So he decided to quietly call off the wedding. While Joseph was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, the baby that Mary will have is from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead and marry her. Then after her baby is born, name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” So the Lord’s promise came true, just as the prophet had said, “A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called Immanuel,” which means “God is with us.” After Joseph woke up, he and Mary were soon married, just as the Lord’s angel had told him to do. But they did not sleep together before her baby was born. Then Joseph named him Jesus. Amen.

그 지역에서 목자들이 밤에 들에서 지내며 그들의 양 떼를 지키고 있었다. 그런데 주님의 한 천사가 그들에게 나타나고, 주님의 영광이 그들을 두루 비추니, 그들은 몹시 두려워하였다. 천사가 그들에게 말하였다. “두려워하지 말아라. 나는 온 백성에게 큰 기쁨이 될 소식을 너희에게 전하여 준다. 오늘 다윗의 동네에서 너희에게 구주가 나셨으니, 그는 곧 그리스도 주님이시다. 너희는 한 갓난아기가 포대기에 싸여, 구유에 뉘어 있는 것을 볼 터인데, 이것이 너희에게 주는 표징이다.” 갑자기 그 천사와 더불어 많은 하늘 군대가 나타나서, 하나님을 찬양하여 말하였다. “더없이 높은 곳에서는 하나님께 영광이요, 땅에서는 주님께서 좋아하시는 사람들에게 평화로다.” 아멘.

헤롯 왕 때에, 예수께서 유대 베들레헴에서 나셨다. 그런데 동방으로부터 박사들이 예루살렘에 와서 말하였다. “유대인의 왕으로 나신 이가 어디에 계십니까? 우리가 동방에서 그의 별을 보고, 그에게 경배하러 왔습니다.” 헤롯 왕은 이 말을 듣고 당황하였고, 온 예루살렘 사람들도 그와 함께 당황하였다. 헤롯왕은 백성의 대제사장들과 율법 교사들을 다 모아 놓고서, 그리스도가 어디에서 태어나실지를 그들에게 물어 보았다. 그들이 왕에게 말하였다. “유대 베들레헴입니다. 예언자가 이렇게 기록하여 놓았습니다. ‘너 유대 땅에 있는 베들레헴아, 너는 유대 고을 가운데서 아주 작지가 않다. 너에게서 통치자가 나올 것이니, 그가 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스릴 것이다.'” 아멘.
When Jesus was born in the village of Bethlehem in Judea, Herod was king. During this time some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem and said, “Where is the child born to be king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard about this, he was worried, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem. Herod brought together the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses and asked them, “Where will the Messiah be born?” They told him, “He will be born in Bethlehem, just as the prophet wrote, ‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.’” Amen.

“그러나 너 베들레헴 에브라다야, 너는 유다의 여러 족속 가운데서 작은 족속이지만, 이스라엘을 다스릴 자가 네게서 내게로 나올 것이다. 그의 기원은 아득한 옛날, 태초에까지 거슬러 올라간다.” 오늘 다윗의 동네에서 너희에게 구주가 나셨으니, 그는 곧 그리스도 주님이시다. 아멘.
Bethlehem Ephrath, you are one of the smallest towns in the nation of Judah. But the LORD will choose one of your people to rule the nation– someone whose family goes back to ancient times. This very day in King David’s hometown a Savior was born for you. He is Christ the Lord. Amen.
