사무엘상 3:1-10, 요한복음 1:43-48a

Title: Come and See !
Scripture: 1 Samuel 3:1-10 John 1:43-48a
Samuel was a young boy who was raised in the temple and he served God under the
guidance of Eli, the priest. At that time, Israel had no kings but was ruled by judges.
However, this was a time for a change which would see Samuel become a part of the
transition to rule by king.
One day Samuel heard a voice from God several times, which he thought was from Eli. He
initially did not understand God’s call as a divine summon. God called again and again,
but the boy went to Eli rather than to God. But Eli realized that it was a call from God. He
instructed Samuel how to answer God's call.
Eli’s family was corrupt and not worthy of becoming leaders in the country. Their succession
was impossible. It was God's call to deliver an unhappy message to Eli. Samuel was
reluctant to carry the message of destruction of Eli’s family. God’s call also contains a
commission to Samuel to serve. Samuel finally responded to God, “Speak, Lord, for your
servant is listening.”
Being called to carry out tasks which are distasteful; to name truths even when the naming
hurts; to act on directions we don’t understand, can be difficult.
God knows us; loves us; and calls us often in unexpected ways.
To be called by God–young and old, women and men–is an act of spiritual intimacy and
divine urgency. God knows one’s name. There is a need for immediate response.
We remember the responses to God's calls by several people: Abraham, Moses,prophets
like Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Deboras, Samuel, John the Baptizer, and Paul.
According to John chapter one: Jesus calls Philip and Nathanael.
Jesus calls Philip,”Come with me.”
Philip calls Nathanael, “ We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the book of the
Law and whom the prophets also wrote about. He is Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth.
Come and see.”
Jesus calls Nathanael,” I knew you before Philip called you.” He is invited to a deeper faith.
At the beginning Samuel did not know the Lord, but later he was asked to go and tell.
Nathanael was not excited to meet Jesus, but later he was invited to “Come and See.”
As Christian, do we hear what God and Jesus are saying to us?

Are we listening?
Sometimes we might hear a call to do something, but do not know where it is coming from or
what it means.
What are some challenges individually and as a church in discerning and responding to
God’s call? Can you say, “Speak, Lord, I am listening.”
Martin Luther King Jr who was born on Jan 15, 1929. He was a voice for equal rights for
African Americans and others. A voice for all God’s children to join hands and walk together
and live together as sisters and brothers.
When do you hear God’s calling?
What does God say to you?
\What is your response?
God who called us before, is calling us again and again, until we respond to the call!

사무엘은 어린 소년으로서 성전에서 사제 엘리 밑에서 일했읍니다. 어느날 잠결에
세번씩이나 엘리가 자기를 부르는 소리를 듣고 그에게 달려갔으나, 사제 엘리는 자기가
사무엘을 부르지 않았다고 했읍니다. 엘리는 이것은 분명히 하나님께서 사무엘을 부르시는
것이라고 믿었지요.
당시에 사제 엘리와 그의 가족들은 부패해서 나라의 지도자로서의 자격을 상실하고
있었읍니다. 하나님께서는 나라를 이끄는 책임을 엘리와 그의 가족으로부터 사무엘에게
맡기려고 하셨지요. 사무엘은 하나님으로부터 어려운 부탁을 받고서 성실하게 반응하고
행동했읍니다. “하나님, 말씀하십시오. 종이 듣고 있읍니다.”
우리를 아시고 사랑하시는 하나님께서는 이따금 우리가 기대하지 못하는 방법으로 우리를
부르시기도 합니다. 물론 그 부르심이 감당하기에 부담이 되거나, 어려운 것일수도 있고,
경우에 따라서는 듣는 사람에게 상처를 줄수도 있지요.
그러나 연령이나 남녀의 구분없이 하나님의 부르심을 받는것은 영적인 것이며, 하나님의
긴박성을 나타내기도 하지요. 그래서 즉각적으로 응답하는 일이 필요할것입니다.
아브라함, 모세, 이사야, 에제키엘, 드보라, 세례요한, 그리고 사도 바울같은 사람들이
하나님의 부르심에 어떻게 반응 했는가를 기억해야 할것입니다.
요한복음에 보면, 예수님이 빌립과 나타나엘을 부르십니다. ”나를 따라 오너라.”
빌립은 나타나엘에게, 우리는 모세와 예언자의 글에서 말하던 분을 만났소.
그분이 바로 예수요.” 와서 그분을 만나보라고 권유하지요. 예수님은 나타나엘을 이미
보았다고 말씀하시면서 깊은 믿음의 자리로 그를 초대합니다.
우리는 크리스챤으로서 하나님과 예수님께서 우리에게 무슨 말씀을 하시는지 바로 듣고
있나요?
우리가 그런 부르심에 응답하려고 할때 어떤 부담감을 느끼거나, 어려움을 갖고 있나요?
아니면, “말씀하세요. 제가 듣고 있읍니다.”라고 쉽게 대답할수 있나요?
말틴 루터 킹 목사님은 1929. 1. 15에 태어났는데, 그는 미국과 다른지역에 흩어져 살고 있는
아프리카 출신 흑인들을 위해 동등한 인권을 호소하며, 요구한 하나의 힘찬 목소리였읍니다.
세상의 모든 하나님의 자녀들이 자매와 형제들로서 함께 손을 잡고, 같이 걸으며, 더불어 살아
가자고 외치는 소리였읍니다.

여러분은 하나님께서 부르시는 소리를 언제 들으시나요?
도대체 하나님께서 무엇이라 말씀하시나요?
그런 부르심에대해 여러분은 무엇이라고 대답하시나요?
우리를 전에도 부르셨던 하나님께서는 지금도 다시 또 다시 여러분을 부르시며, 우리가
응답할때까지 부르심을 계속하십니다.
