한반도의 평화와 공존, 번영을 위한 공동 기도문

A Prayer for Peaceful Coexistence and Prosperity on the Korean Peninsula

“For Christ is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of hostility that kept us apart … in order to make the two into one new person, thus establishing peace and reconciling us all to God in one body through the cross…”(Ephesians 2:14-16 The Inclusive Bible)

Background: The relationship between the two countries on the Korean peninsula has been changing dramatically in the past months from the brink of nuclear-war to the historic April 27 Inter-Korean summit in Panmunjom, as well as the possibility of a North Korean-United States peace summit which was originally scheduled for June 12 in Singapore. The positive momentum for peace was unfortunately set-back by the sudden cancellation of the U.S. meeting. Many Christians in Korea and around the world who pray for the Peace of Christ to be realized on earth have never ceased their prayers and efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The following prayer has been provided by a group of Korean ministers in The United Church of Canada. Please join with them in their prayers for the end of the prolonged hostility, for the peaceful coexistence, and the prosperity for all people involved, by using this common prayer in your faith community and your personal devotions.

God of Peace, you reconcile with us in Christ and break down the dividing walls between people. Today we remember our sisters and brothers in the Korean Peninsula and unite our voices with them in prayer. We remember the Korean people, united as one nation for five thousand years, who have been forcibly separated from each other by external forces in the wake of colonial occupation and the devastation of the Second WorldWar. They have been divided and set against one another for seventy years: hurting each other, living in fear, resentment, and brokenness. Have mercy on us, O God.

Help them overcome division and confrontation.

Walk beside them as they take each step toward peace and harmony. Pour out your Spirit on world leaders, politicians, communities, and average people. May they resolve their differences not with weapons, but through dialogue and negotiation, that the Korean people may find the way toward a common good and wellbeing of all.

We also pray for those suffering from war and violent conflict around the world: remembering people in Israel-Palestine, Syria, and the Middle East, and the millions of refugees displaced from their homes due to conflict and violence.

Inspire and encourage us, O God, that the global community work together not for the interests of political and economic elites, or the military-industrial complex, but for equality, human dignity, and peaceful coexistence.

Help us, O God, to stay alert and keep praying, to follow the way of Jesus, to embrace with courage the Spirit of truth, freedom, and peace as witnesses to your presence and your work among us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

“그리스도는 우리의 평화이십니다. 그리스도께서는 유대 사람과 이방 사람이 양쪽으로 갈라져 있는 것을 하나로 만드신 분이십니다. 그분은 유대 사람과 이방 사람 사이를 가르는 담을 자기 몸으로 허무셔서, 원수 된 것을 없애시고 … 이 둘을 자기 안에서 하나의 새 사람으로 만들어서 평화를 이루시고 … 이 둘을 한 몸으로 만드셔서, 하나님과 화해시키셨습니다.” (에베소서 2 장 14-16 절 새번역)

불과 몇 개월 전 북한-미국 간 핵 전쟁 발발의 위기에서 4 월 27 일 남북 판문점 정상회담과 역사적인 북미 정상회담에 대한 가능성으로, 다시 회담 취소와 긴장고조 등 한반도를 둘러싼 정세가 급박하게 돌아가는 상황에서도, 그리스도의 평화가 이 땅에 이루어지기를 바라는 한국과 세계에 많은 그리스도인들은 한반도 평화를 위한 기도와 노력을 계속하고 있습니다.

한반도에 오랜 갈등과 대립을 끝내고 평화와 공존, 공동의 번영으로 나아가기를 간절히 바라는 마음으로 아래와 같이 연합교회 구성원들이 함께 기도하고자 합니다.

평화의 하나님, 예수 그리스도를 통해 우리와 화해하시고, 사람들 사이의 막힌 담을 허무시는 하나님, 오늘 우리는 한반도에 살고 있는 남과 북의 형제자매들을 기억하며 우리의 마음을 모아 기도합니다.

반만년의 역사를 지닌 한민족은 식민지배와 세계전쟁의 상흔으로 70 년이라는 긴 세월동안 남북으로 나뉘어 서로 대립하며 살아왔습니다.동족간 서로가 서로에게 상처를 주고, 분노와 두려움에서 자유로울 수 없었던 이들의 삶을 불쌍히 여기소서. 이제 분열과 대립을 넘어 평화와 화해의 시대로 나아가려 하는 이들의 걸음걸음을 인도하시고 힘을 북돋아 주옵소서.

개인과 시민사회, 정치가와 세계 지도자들에게 평화의 영을 불어 넣으시어 무력 보다 대화와 협상으로 문제를 해결하고, 모두에게 선이 되는 공동 번영의 길로 나아가도록 이끌어 주시옵소서

우리는 또한 전쟁과 갈등으로 고통받고 있는 전세계 많은 사람들을 위해 기도합니다. 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 땅에서, 또한 시리아와 중동 지역에서, 오랜 갈등과 폭력으로 살던 터전에서 내몰리고 난민으로 살아가는 수많은 사람들 위에 함께 하옵소서.

세계 공동체가 정치, 군사적 이익이 아닌, 생명 존중과 평화 공존의 가치를 위해 함께 노력해 나가도록 우리를 깨우치시고 인도해 주소서.

예수님의 제자 된 우리들이 항상 깨어 기도하게 하시고 역사 가운데 임하시고, 또 우리 가운데서 일하시는 진리, 자유, 평화의 영이신 하나님의 성령을 따라 용기 있게 나아가게 하소서. 예수 그리스도 이름으로 기도 드립니다.  아멘.

한반도의 평화를 위한 이 기도문은  5월 25-26일 미들랜드에서 열린 캐나다연합교회 토론토 연회에서 결정하여 연합교회 모두가 함께 드리는 기도입니다.
