크리스챤의 기억 상실증

Title: Christians’ Amnesia
Scripture: Isaiah 40:27-31 Mark 1:29-34, 36-39 1 Corinthians 9:22b-23
Who is God? What kind of God do we believe in?
Where is God? What does God do?
What does God have to do with us? Does God care for us?
What is our understanding of God?
-eternal?
-wholly other-transcendence?
-tireless?
-immanent?
-omnipotent-almighty, infinite power?
-omnipresence-everywhere?
-omniscient-knowing everything?
The 6th century Israel was in difficult time: being destroyed by Babylonian power
and in exile.
The crisis of the Babylonian exile has caused the people to forget their own story, the story
of God’s attentiveness and dependability; the story of God’s love for them.
Because they had forgotten, they were questioning the presence and power of God.
But those who remember their history and believe in God who fulfills promises will be able
to receive new strength and life from their relationship with God.
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
Have you not understood?
Lift up your eyes and see who created the world.
The Lord is the everlasting God.
Christians’ Amnesia: Problem that causes us to fall apart every time a crisis comes.
-Why me or us?
-Where is God?
-Did God leave me/us alone?
The text is about us, God, and about what God does with us when all seem to be down.
Today, we hear: church membership is declining; financial resources are shrinking;
members are getting naturally old and not many young generation; church closing,
selling church buildings, and properties are on sale.
What are our challenges?
A sense of positive identity and enthusiasm for mission!
How to equip ourselves for ministry in the new Canadian context.

Our theological identity crisis in the church today:
Do we know who we are as Christians?
Do we remember what we believe/why we believe it?
Do we know how to talk with the world and about our faith?
When we confront trouble/crisis,
What do we do?
And how do we respond?
Collapse with anxiety /stress?
Elijah was hiding in a cave because he was scared to death of Jezebel.
God said to Elijah, “What are you doing here?
Why are you so stressed out?
Get up and get moving again!”

What is your experience/memory of despair/chaos facing crisis?
We come to know who God is and how God works in the world
through seeking, exploring, reflecting and acting;
through worship, Bible study, practice of faith, hospitality stewardship and service
together.
God will renew our strength.

I’ll raise you up on eagle’s wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you shine like the sun.
You need not fear the terror of the might,
nor the arrow that flies by day
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.
Jesus’ ministry transcends all the limits imposed by tradition,dogma, authority and
prejudice…Jesus doesn’t want to be locked into a sacred structure.
The disciples/followers are those on the road, the outpost of the Kingdom of Love and
Justice.
An African proverb says, “If you want to go fast go alone: If you want to go far, go together
with others!” In our world of war, fear, and suffering we walk together even though we are on
our imperfect journey with each other for wholeness.
February is a Black History Month.
We remember those who were born in Africa, Caribbean,and in Canada.
We try to deal with inclusion,learning common racial identity, cultural characteristics,
advocating justice, and anti-racism.
We walk together into a future that is vibrant and life-giving for the sake of the gospel.

하나님이 누구신가요? 우리는 어떤 하나님을 믿나요?
하나님은 어디에 계신가요? 그는 무엇을 하고 계시죠?
하나님은 우리와 어떤 관계를 갖고 있나요? 그가 우리를 돌보시나요?
우리는 하나님을 어떻게 이해하고 있나요?
-영원하신분?
-완전히 이 세상을 초월하고 계신분?
-조금도 피곤해 하지 않으시는분?
– 우리와 아주 가까이 계신분?
– 모든 것을 초월해서 전능하신분?
– 어디에나 계시는 분?
– 모든것을 다 알고 계신분?
주전 6세기의 이스라엘은 바벨론 나라에 의해 점령당하고 많은 사람이 포로로 그나라에
끌려가는 아주 어려운 시기를 겪었읍니다.
바벨론에서 포로생활을 하면서 그들은 하나님이 함께해주시고 그를 의지하며 살던 그들의
이야기, 하나님께서 그들을 사랑해주시던 이야기를 완전히 잊어버렸읍니다. 그래서 그들은
하니님이 그들과 함께하시며 능력을 보여주시던 일들에 대해 의심을 하기시작했읍니다.
그러나 그들 자신의 역사를 기억하고 하나님께서는 하신 약속을 지키신다는 것을 믿는
사람들은 하나님과의 관계를 통해서 새로운 힘과 삶을 얻을 수 있었습니다.
알지 못했는가?
듣지 못했는가?
이해하지 못했는가?
눈을 들어 이 세상을 창조하신 하나님을 바라보라.
하나님은 영원하신 분이시다.
크리스챤의 기억상실증: 우리가 위기를 맞을때마다 우리를 망가지게하는 문제들
왜 하필 나 혹은 우리여야하는가?
하나님은 지금 어디에 계시다는 말인가?
하나님이 나 혹은 우리를 그냥 내버려두시는것인가?
오늘 본문은 모든 일들이 어렵게될때, 우리와 하나님, 그리고 하나님께서 우리를 위해
무엇을 하시는가?하는 내용을 말해주고 있습니다.
요즘, 교인 수가 줄고, 재정상황이 어려워지며, 교인들의 연령이 많아지고 있고, 젊은이들을
찾아보기 쉽지 않으며, 교회를 닫아버리거나, 교회건물이나 소유지를 파는 일들이 늘어나고
지요.
현재 우리가 직면하는 도전들을 아래와 같이 나열할수 있을것입니다:
– 우리가 누구인가를 긍정적으로 파악하려고 노력하는 일.

– 선교를 위해 열정적으로 노력하는 일.
– 변하고 있는 캐나다의 상황가운데서 우리는 목회를 위해 어떻게 우리 자신들을
준비할 수있겠는가?
오늘 우리교회가 직면하고있는 신학적인 주체성에 관한 질문들:
-크리스챤으로서 우리는 누구인가를 바로 알고 있는가?
-우리는 무엇을 믿고 있으며, 왜 그렇게 믿는가를 기억하고 있는가?
-우리는 이 세상과 어떻게 대화를 해야 하며, 우리의 믿음에 대해서 무엇이라고
말해야하는지 알고 있는가?
우리가 어떤 문제나 위기에 직면할때:
-우리는 무엇을 해야하는가?
-어떻게 반응할 것인가?
-걱정과 어떤 압박을 받고서 완전히 포기 상태?
엘리야는 이스라엘의 왕 아합의 부인 이세벨에게 죽임을 당하는 것이 두려워서 동굴에 숨어
있었읍니다. 하나님께서 그를 부릅니다.
“너는 여기에서 무엇을 하고 있느냐?
왜 그렇게 염려가 많으냐?
일어나서 다시 일을 시작하여라!”
여러분은 위기를 맞았을때 절망하고 좌절했던 기억이나 경험이 있으세요?
우리는 여러가지로 알아보고, 탐구도 하며, 여러 활동을 통해서, 그리고 예배,
성경공부, 신앙 훈련, 청지기직, 봉사등을 통해서 하나님이 누구시고, 그가 어떻게 이
세상에서 활동하시는지 알게됩니다.
하나님은 우리의 능력을 새롭게 해주십니다.
예수님은 우리의 전통, 논리, 권위, 편견 등의 제한을 초월하는 목회와 선교를 하셨읍니다.
그를 따르는 우리는 사랑과 정의의 하나님 나라를 이루는 길을 걸어갑니다.
아프리카의 격언에 이런 말이 있습니다.
“만일 당신이 빨리 가고싶으면, 혼자서 가라.
그러나 멀리 가기를 원하면, 남들과 같이 가라”
전쟁, 두려움, 고통이 많은 이 세상에서 우리가 비록 다른 사람들과 더불어 불완전한 여정을
계속하지만, 우리는 완전을 향해 함께 걸어 갑니다.
2월은 아프리카, 캐리비안, 캐나다 등에서 태어난 사람들을 기억하고 연대하는 달입니다.
우리는 모두를 포함하고, 인종의 주체성, 문화의 특성, 인종차별과 정의에 대해서 알아보고
같은 목소리를 내려고 노력합니다.
우리는 복음을 들고서 역동성 있고, 생명을 주는 미래를 향해 함께 걸어갈 것입니다.
