Title: Thoughts from God?
Scripture:Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16 Mark 8:31-38
When Abram was 75 years old God called him and made a promise.
Now, Abram is at the age of 99 and God made a covenant with Abram:
-He will be an ancestor of a multitude of nations.
-God will give him a new name Abraham and a new name Sarah to Sarai.
-God will bless him and give him a son by Sarah.
God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah was an everlasting covenant.
And their new names meant a New Identity. Abraham is called to live a life of blessing,
obedience,and shalom.
Throughout the Old Testament we see the reestablishment of the relationship between God
and nations. The scope of God’s redemptive work is global and the promise is a sign of
reconciliation. The covenant between God and the people includes promise, blessing,
commandment, and freedom.
We are always on the receiving end of God’s movement to bring about life and freedom,
forgiveness and belonging, which indicate a covenant of grace.
The covenant offers the people of Israel, the church , and each one of us the gift of hope,
source of identity, and our place in the creation.
We are invited to spend 40 days examining the nature of our own covenant with God.
If we were to ask God for a new name, what might that name be? In baptism, we got a new
name: Disciple of Jesus.
Jesus said that the son of man must be suffered, be rejected, be killed, and be risen again.
If anyone wants to become his follower and disciple the person must deny him/herself, take
up own cross, and follow him.
To confess Jesus as Messiah is to recognize him on the Cross and to recognize that
discipleship is the way of our own cross. Potential followers must be ready and willing to
suffer as Jesus suffered, losing their lives in order to gain them. The Theology of Cross is
grounded in the weakness of suffering and death.
This season of Lent means the journey of Jesus to the Cross, the call of Jesus to us, the call
of Jesus to give our lives, and to act of love, compassion, justice, and peace.
We think of a picture of Jesus on the road to Jerusalem calling us to take up our own
crosses and to walk with him in paths of love and service.

아브람이 75살때 하나님께서 그를 부르셨고, 그가 99살이 되었을때 아브람과 계약을
맺으셨지요.
– 그가 많은 민족의 조상이 될것이다.
– 그에게는 아브라함이라는 새 이름을, 아내 사래에게는 사라라는 새 이름을 주실것이다.
– 하나님께서 그를 축복하셔서 사라를 통해서 아들을 낳게 하리라.
하나님께서 아브라함과 사라에게 하신 약속은 영원한 계약이었읍니다. 하나님께서 그들에게
주신 새 이름은 그들이 누구임을 새롭게 정의하시는 놀라운 사건이었읍니다. 아브라함은
축복과 순종, 그리고 평화의 삶을 살도록 하나님의 부르심을 받은것입니다.
우리는 구약전체를 통해서 하니님께서 많은 나라들과의 관계를 새롭게 이루시는 사건들을
보게됩니다. 하나님의 구원의 활동은 우주적이며, 그의 약속은 화해의 표시입니다. 하나님과
인간의 계약관계는 약속, 축복, 계명과 자유를 포함합니다.
하나님께서는 그의 활동을 통해서 우리에게 생명, 자유, 용서와 소속감을 주십니다. 이것을
은혜의 계약이라고 할수 있읍니다. 하나님께서는 이 계약을 통해서 이스라엘 백성이나
우리교회, 그리고 우리 각자에게 희망의 선물, 우리의 정체성, 하나님의 창조 안에서 우리가
해야할 역활을 마련해주십니다.
우리는 이 40일의 고난절 기간에 하나님과 우리가 맺은 계약의 내용과 의미를 깊이
생각해야할 것입니다. 만일 우리가 하나님께서 우리에게 새 이름을 주시기를 바란다면, 그
새 이름은 무엇일까요? 우리는 세례를 통해서 “예수의 제자”라는 새로운 이름을 이미
받았읍니다.
예수님께서 말씀하시기를 인자는 고통을 당하고, 버림을 받으며, 죽임을 당한후에 다시
살아나실것이라고 하셨읍니다. 누구든지 그를 따르며, 제자가 되려면, 그 사람은 자신을 부인
하고, 자기의 십자가를 지고 따라야한다고 하셨읍니다.
예수님을 메시야로 고백한다는 말은 그가 십자가에 달리심을 깨닫는다는 것을 말합니다.
또한 제자직이란 우리 자신의 십자가에 이르는 길이라는 것을 우리가 인식함을 의미합니다.
예수를 따르려는 사람은 그가 겪은 고통을 당하며, 예수와 복음때문에 목숨을 잃는 각오를
할수 있어야 할것입니다. 십자가의 신학은 고통과 죽음이라는 연약성에 근거합니다.

이 고난절은 예수님이 십자가를 향해 가신 여정을 의미합니다. 또한 사랑, 남을 위하는 마음,
정의 와 평화를 위해 행동하며, 우리의 삶을 헌신하도록 예수님께서 우리를 부르심을
뜻합니다.
예수님께서 예루살렘을 향해 가시면서, 우리들이 우리 자신들의 십자가를 지고, 그와함께
사랑과 섬김의 길을 가자고 부르시는 예수님의 모습을 이 시간 깊이 생각하실수 있기를
바랍니다.
